Shop vac switch swap
Placeholder log entry. The vac had started needing a firm smack to turn off, which is rarely a good sign on anything mains-powered.
Opened it up and found the rocker switch contacts welded together. The arc pitting was visible without magnification. Swapped in a 16A panel-mount switch that fit the existing cutout with only minor filing.
Next: keep an eye on the motor’s inrush current, since a switch does not usually weld itself shut for no reason.
Built one of these, fixed it a better way, or spotted the mistake before I did? Leave a reply.
